Valdez Fire Station 1

Fire Station 1 provides the primary response to emergencies in the area. The Station is the only public safety facility staffed with full-time and volunteer responders and a full complement of emergency and fire-fighting apparatus and equipment.

This 19,000 sf steel frame multi-story FD and EMS facility and adjoining Training Tower replaced a 52 year old station with many proven deficiencies and vulnerabilities. Project development included expedited concept design to prepare for bonding, as well as full building design services, bidding, and construction support.

The pre-design process identified and studied a variety of design solutions. The selected design solution includes crew quarters, a large meeting room, administrative offices, apparatus bays, and support facilities.

The design provides several opportunities for future expansion including additional apparatus bays and expansion of crew and storage areas. A new Station alerting system provides controls for lighting, kitchen appliances and both audio and visual alarms.

Challenges met on the project included re-platting of the site and attaining a Conditional Use Permit in a expedited time frame. Cost savings during construction permitted adding a 3-story training tower. The Contractor anticipates returning money to the Owner.
